deletion
I bought an external hard drive about a month ago for storing my photo library. I’ve uploaded all photos onto the item but have yet to delete anything from my computer because what if the photos aren’t really on the external? What if I am only imagining that they are there? What if I delete a bunch from my computer and the external decides it doesn’t like having the photos and makes them disappear? What if? You don’t know, it could happen.
So my computer is full and not working well and I cannot upload a single photo more. I could not upload the very tip of one corner of a photo if my life depended on it. All I can barely do is this. Whine about my terror at deleting photos.
OH THE TERROR.
So give me courage, internet. Or just yell at me and say I am being a fool.
GET TO IT, you should say. MAKE WITH THE DELETING.

External hard drives can have their problems, just so your aware. Don’t get me wrong, they are great to have, but always make sure you’ve back up work in more than one place. I.E. also burn a CD or DVD-rw with your work for safe keeping. But otherwise… no you’re not imagining they’re on there, prove it to yourself by taking it to another computer if you have to.

I’m scared to delete pictures off the memore card after I’ve put them on my computer! I usually upload my pictures to kodak too.
Good luck.

I know the fear and I know it well! I have 8000 photos on my computer and none of them want to move out!!!!!!

Backup, backup, backup. You could always store them in files on your computer, perhaps by month or year, then zip those files and store the zipped flies on your computer somewhere else. Just in case. That may save some room at least.
I don’t have many pictures on my computer (okay that’s a lie), but I DO store 99% of my photos online in at least one place (most are in two places).

Oh Sarie is right, On-line is good storage too. Even if you upload your photos as attachements to e-mails and then save them as drafts. G-Mail has an outstanding amount of space. I know Photobucket is an on-line photo storage also. I’ve heard of others like Flickr, but don’t know how good they are. I so far have not had trouble with Photobucket.

MAKE WITH THE DELETING. (I totally couldn’t do it. Chris does that sort of thing for me. Because I’m a headcase.)

I can’t help you there–I’ve got the same problem with music. WHAT IF IT’S NOT REALLY THERE?? Uh uh. No way. Someone will have to sneak in and do it for me.

I’m totally with you on that one. I went through the same separation anxiety about two months ago. Take whatever time you need. When you’re ready to delete, you won’t even think twice about it, you’ll see!
p.s. Michele sent me to say hello. I think I did a good job of it, yes?

p.p.s. I’ll be back all by myself too. And that’s a threat!

Hey, what about burning the photos to DVDs as well as keeping them in the external?
