From the tone of your words, I know you're there for your niece as well. Although it's kinda dark for your sister now, I have a sneaky suspicion that her daughter, despite the difficulty being visited upon her these days, may yet prove to be the rock that your sister seems to need at this time of her life. Not everyone would do that. And also to be there for your sister. Do you feel like you are there for your niece too? She might really appreciate getting to go out with you and doing something "girly" and bonding. She might need the shoulder to lean on too. I really feel for her; teenage years are difficult. Even when your niece is getting crapped on, she probably sees that it is not like that for everyone and she will also learn from your sister's behavior and yours. I say if you keep up the good work, maybe your sister will some day use you as an example too. If not, surely your nieces will! Your niece sounds like she knows how to set a pretty good example too!
