~about the writing
I’m Denice. I’m a Canadian writer working on my first novel. I quit my job on January first, 1999 to stay home and write full time. Despite myself I managed to actually put pen to paper and learned a lot about the craft of writing. Most of what I learned came from having been selected to be a part of a yearly Mentor Program with the local Writer’s Guild.
I worked for 6 months with a published professional novelist who taught me more than a hundred million books on writing ever could. At the end of this Mentor Program I gave a public reading of a short story I’d written (along with four other writers in the Program). It went well, I got high on the adoration, I wanted more.
Instead, I got pregnant and had a baby. He is called Jacob. He did not let me do much writing. Neither did his sister, Madison who cames two years post Jacob. I love them more than sunshine but am also thankful that they are no longer babies and I can get back to developing Me. I believe it will make me a better than ever Mommy if I’m allowed to be a whole person and not just the person at the end of the other end of the figurative umbilical cord.
This website was created to feed my need to put words together. I can’t live without doing so even when I cannot devote any real time to doing so well. Good news is that time does now allow more effort. I write here about life, in general. I sometimes mommyblog and sometimes everything under the sun blog. Beginning fall of 2007 I will also be blogging weekly updates as I work on my first novel. Should be fun and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey.
I also have two other sites: near.daily.visual which is a photoblog and my new favorite project interskew which is a site born of the imaginary interviews I first created on this site. Like everything else these sites have suffered lack of attention due to my primary role as family leader but now that everyone is back at school there will be more regular love given to these and all of my projects.
~about the person
I’m thirty-eight, I have long brown hair, I don’t believe in God, I learned to drive while pregnant with my second child, I like rainy days but hate if it’s cloudy more than one day in a row, I drink red wine and white wine makes me barf violently, I have two brothers and one sister, I live with a man called Dan and we are not married even though we have two children together, that’s because I don’t see the point of getting married when we really already are, I’m basically lazy but work hard all of the time anyway, I’ve never had a cup of coffee in my entire life, nor a cigarette, nor drugs, but I’m not as boring as that makes me seem, I live in the suburbs and struggle with trying to be the person I’ve grown up to be because it’s so foreign to me, but I like it, don’t get me wrong, I love photography but find there’s nothing interesting to take pictures of in the suburbs, my favorite food is probably pasta and if I were American I would never have voted for GWB.
